Online: 404 Multiplayer & Co-op

Online: 404 supports solo play or a co-op team of up to four players in total. The count comes from the developer’s introduction. June demo players also report using the phone’s Contacts screen to add friends, a procedure that should remain labelled as demo-era guidance.

Four players means the whole team

The developer describes completing the game alone or in a team of up to four. That means the stated maximum is four participants in total, rather than four guests in addition to a host. The Steam store also identifies online co-op as a feature.

The fan co-op overview corroborates the count using developer information. It is useful supporting coverage, but the primary basis remains Cornfield Games’ statement. Read broad genre labels in light of that explicit description of team size.

Do not read the genre label as a server specification

Steam includes a Massively Multiplayer genre label on the listing. The collected research does not explain that label as a different session limit. It should not override the developer’s explicit four-player co-op description.

A genre category and a detailed multiplayer specification serve different purposes. The verified player-count answer comes from the more specific developer statement. This prevents an ambiguous label from becoming a claim about MMO-sized sessions.

How demo players described invitations

In the June First Stage Demo thread, two players answer a question about playing with friends. Both point to the in-game phone and its Contacts screen. Their reports identify a specific demo interface path rather than a separate out-of-game lobby tool.

These are ordinary community replies, not a developer-authored setup manual. They corroborate one another for the historical demo, but they do not establish the interface in every later build. The distinction should remain visible when following the invitation guidance.

Co-op is separate from crossplay

The developer has discussed plans for PlayStation and Xbox ports after PC. In the located console thread, the answer addresses ports without explicitly confirming crossplay. An intention to make a console version is therefore not a commitment to shared PC-and-console sessions.

The collected multiplayer evidence does not verify dedicated-server support, split-screen or public matchmaking. Those features should not be inferred from the word co-op. The supported answer is the documented solo option, online co-op feature and four-player team size.

Use the source that matches the question

For player count, start with the developer’s introduction linked below. For the historical Contacts procedure, read the First Stage Demo thread. For platform plans, use the separate Xbox and PlayStation articles instead of treating them as multiplayer specifications.

The sources were collected before the planned Early Access launch. Demo-era menu reports and official feature statements have different evidential roles. Keeping that distinction visible makes it easier to use the practical information without overstating what has been tested.
